Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is by Tennessee Williams and its the play I read since I've already read Romeo and Juliet. Honestly I was surprised I liked it. That sounds weird but I decided I like Tennessee Williams. The play was in an anthology so I read a couple of others in it too since they were on the master list too. The story is really convoluted. Its about this couple who have come back to the husband's (Brick's) house because his rich father (Big Daddy) is dying of cancer and hasn't made a will yet. Brick and his wife Maggie are fighting over it with his brother Gooper and Mae. Brick and Maggie don't have any kids and the other two do. This is a sore spot because Brick won't sleep with Maggie. He started drinking after his friend Skipper died. There is a lot of conversation about Brick and Skipper's friendship. There are two different third acts. I liked parts of both. The original ends with the line "Wouldn't it be funny if that were true" which is used earlier and almost gives different meaning to both scenes. All in all it was certainly interesting. I'm sorry this is such a convoluted description. I hope you understand.

I also found out I loved Tennessee Williams from my summer reading list. I read "The Glass Menagerie" and LOVED it! It was depressing, but SO well written. I would love to see it acted out. Which other plays did you read? I'll have to give Cat on a Hot Tin Roof a try sometime. Do you think it would work in a classroom or does it deal with too "mature" topics? I'm trying to think of a new play to read with my college prep juniors instead of The Crucible. What do you think?

P-dise, I've never read Cat on a Hot Tin Roof before, but I actually enjoyed The Crucible. I thought it was a really good play.

P-dise, I read The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Rose Tatoo, and Battle of Angels. It might work in the classroom. I mean it does deal with a possible gay relationship between Brick and Skipper and there is a lot about Brick and Maggie's lack of a sex life. It really wasn't any worse then The Crucible. I personally think it would be fine and I liked it better anyway but I leave it to your discretion. Its a pretty fast read.

thats sounds like a really good play. my play was really good too and a super fast read.by the way what an original name for the dad, that actually made me laugh reading that. so with the two different third acts is it like an alternate ending sort of thing?

So I think I followed that, but hey if the story is convoluted, why shouldn't your synopsis be too? :) But although it sounds like it could get confusing it acutally sounds like it would be quite in interesting.
